The winged bull, Nergal, was a deity worshiped throughout Mesopotamia by the Akkadians, Assyrians and Babylonians. Primordial son of Enlil and Ninlil, he presides over Mesopotamia’s Netherworld. Winged bulls were sometimes known as Šedu or lamassu.
